Tata Steel Mining recruits 11 village women for Heavy Earth Moving Machinery Operation.

Sukinda, Odisha: As part of its drive to promote inclusivity in its workforce, TSML has recruited 11 Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) Operators for its service partners. This is part of Company’s Prakashini - Pragati ki Roshni initiative which is a flexi program in mining for women employees as HEMM operator trainees. DB Sunder Ramam, Chairman TSML and Chanakya Chaudhary, Director TSML formally launched the initiative on the occasion of the second anniversary of TSML celebrated on 19th May 2022. During the selection process for the recruitment for its Mines located in Sukinda of Jajpur district of Odisha, 61 women from the villages surrounding the Mines had applied. 36 applicants were shortlisted on basis of physical fitness, age and height and finally 11 candidates between the age of 25 to 35 were selected. The candidates will undergo structured training process for one year and upon successful completion of training they will be employed with TSML’s service partners. This step of onboarding women HEMM not only aims to break the stereotype on women workforce in Mining, but also to strengthen their morale and empower them. This is part of TSML’s D&I initiatives to curate a workplace where everyone is respected. D&I has been a part of Group’s ethos since long.
